The Fund Managers Association of Nigeria recently spearheaded an enlightening and empowering event during the Global Money Week at Lagos State University (LASU). The event brought together students from the seven departments of the Faculty of Management Science to engage in thought-provoking discussions and quiz competition aimed at fostering financial literacy and capital market inclusion.
In a competition that showcased the exceptional talents and knowledge of LASU’s brightest minds, representatives of each departments contested for top honours. The Insurance department emerged triumphant, claiming the first prize of N150,000. Their remarkable performance underscored their understanding of the Nigerian capital market. Other departments from Business Administration, Marketing, and Public Administration, secured first, second, and third runners-up, with prize money of N100,000, N75,000, N60,000 respectively. The Finance, Accounting, and Industrial Relations & Human Resource Management (IR&HRM) departments were also recognized for their contributions with prize money of N50,000, N40,000, and N25,000 being the cash prize for the fifth, sixth, and seventh positions respectively.
Adding to the event’s allure and educational value was the esteemed keynote speaker, Mrs. Fadekemi Obasanya, Head of the Technical and Enlightenment Committee of FMAN. Mrs. Obasanya delivered an insightful address on the theme, “Protect Your Money, Secure Your Future.” She commenced her address by elucidating the nuanced differences between investing and saving, laying a solid foundation for the audience’s understanding. She then delved deeper into the benefits of investing, empowering attendees with valuable insights into wealth creation and financial security. Rounding off her address, she shed light on the advantages of mutual funds and collective investment schemes, offering attendees practical strategies for maximizing their financial potential.
The FMAN’s Global Money Week event at LASU served as a testament to the association’s unwavering commitment to sensitizing the next generation on sound saving and investment through engaging competitions.
